As an introductory text, this book has the modest aim of providing a succinct overview of the relevant legal principles, rules, and standards l hat have been developed and applied by courts, tribunals, and govern­ment officials to individual cases. However, immigration law is not a lield in which modest aims are easily met. One is confronted immedi­ately by two ineluctable and unassailable points.
