In the beginning the dominion structure included four provinces - French-speaking Quebec and English-speaking Ontario, and also Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Then, in 1870 - a province Manitoba, in 1871 - British Columbia, in 1873 - Prince Edward island, and in 1905 - Saskatchevan and Albert. Federation creation was the historical achievement of the Canadian people which have opened a way of independent development of the country. But only in 1949 with joining of Newfoundland formation of territory of dominion its modern borders has definitively come to the end. In this important for Canada the historical period of the statement of the sovereignty there were such important events as acceptance of the Westminster status of the 1931 which have recognised full independence of dominion in internal and foreign policy, and the Certificate about the Canadian citizenship of 1947 All it promoted end of a difficult and long way to independence, economic and political development of the country.
